The Kerala Story is a film made by Indian film Industry and released in Theatres on
5th of May, 2023 spurred controversy across India and questions are
being raised from across the World particularly from Muslim Spheres.
The plot of the
film:
The film
revolves around the story of a woman named Fatima. She converted to Islam and
aspired to join nursing as a profession. She was abducted from her home by the
extremist group and later manipulated to join Islamic State (IS). She ended the
journey being imprisoned in a Jail based in Afghanistan.
The
Controversy:
The story of
the film claimed about thirty-two thousand women who converted to Islam and majority
of them recruited by Islamic State (IS) afterwards. IS is a terrorist group
based in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. It is known for conducting terrorist operations across
many countries due to which, both the Muslim and Non-Muslim
world condemn it.
Muslim community
in India and across the world claimed that it is based on false premise. The Critics
are blaming it as a plot to foment communal violence and polarization.
The aftermath:
- Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi endorsed the film along various segments of his party.
- The information Minister of India, Anurag Thakur said the film showed a reality of Islamic State (IS).
- Everyone must watch the movie to have clear understanding of the agenda undertook by terrorist outfit working globally. India Today quoted Anurag Thakur.
- The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee termed the film “A distorted story.”
- The film was banned in whole state of West Bengal which is larger than many of the European States including Germany.
- Mamata Banerjee said that the decision to ban the movie was taken to avoid hatred and violence, and to maintain peace across the state.
- Various theatres in the Southern State of Tamil Nadu have also stopped telecasting the film in order to avoid unwanted incident.
- The opposition parties in India, Indian National Congress and the Communist Party of India have criticized the film and termed it to prompt "live Jihad" in the country.
- Jitendra Awhad, who is member of Indian National Congress said, the movie is not based on facts, it should be banned, and even its producer should be hanged.
- The Keral High Court refuse to give stay order by ruling that nothing contained in the film as offensive to any community.
