The unwavering
support of the United States for Israel has been criticized by the analysts.
Because the
support is responsible for enabling and emboldening the right-wing Israeli
government's increasing violence against Palestinians in the occupied West
Bank.
Israel’s bloody
intrusions and incursions against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank
continues with growing calls for the protection of unarmed civilians.
“The
ground-and-air attack on the Jenin refuge camp on Monday was the largest
military operation in the occupied territory since the 2000-2005 Second
Intifada – or mass Palestinian uprising against Israel’s decades-long
occupation”. Al-Jazeera reported.
Despite
President Joe Biden's commitment to prioritizing human rights in foreign
policy, analysts argue that the US administration continues to back Israel,
even as concerns mount over the scale of the Israeli attack in Jenin.
US Support and Israel's "Right to Defend":
The White House
is again underscoring Israel's "right to defend" itself.
This stance has
faced criticism for its response to the Israeli attack on the densely populated
Jenin refugee camp.
The statement
from the White House National Security Council supports Israel's security
against terrorist groups like Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Experts believe
that this reflects the Biden's unwillingness to rein in Israel, leading to a
strained relationship with human rights in the region.
The Biden Administration's Stance:
While the Biden
administration aims to prevent the situation in the West Bank from worsening,
experts argue that it is reluctant to jeopardize its relationship with Israel.
This hesitation
has led to a worsening situation for Palestinians in the region.
Critics claim
that the US administration continues to shield Israel and exempt it from the
human rights norms and international standards it expects from other nations.
Furthermore, the United
Nations, in its report, published in June this year have not included the name
of Israel for civilian atrocities and war crimes while Russia
US Aid and Apartheid Accusations:
Despite
accusations of committing apartheid by human rights organizations, Israel
receives significant annual military aid of at least $3.8 billion from the
United States.
Advocacy groups
and Palestinian rights advocates express outrage at the Biden administration's
response to the Israeli attack in Jenin.
They also have highlighted
its disregard for Palestinian lives and characterizing it as a massive colonial
violence.
Israeli Actions and US Stance:
Under Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right government, Israel has intensified its
near-daily military raids in the West Bank.
The Israeli
government has also pushed for the expansion of illegal settlements in the
occupied territories, accompanied by increased attacks on Palestinian
communities by settlers.
Although the US
administration has voiced opposition to settler violence and settlement
policies but it also continues to express unwavering support for Israel.
Calls for Urgent Action:
While the US's
consistent support for Israel during the Jenin refugee camp raid does not
surprise observers.
But some of them
have argued that the attack should prompt the Biden administration to adopt a
more urgent approach.
The Council on
American Islamic Relations (CAIR) calls for concrete action to end the
"war crimes" against Palestinians, emphasizing the need for
consequences.
“The Israeli government is completely out of control because it does not expect to face any consequences from the Biden administration,” the group’s director, Nihad Awad, said in a statement by adding, “This must change.”
The scale and
scope of the assault on Jenin highlight Israel's use of collective punishment
tactics to break the will of Palestinians in the West Bank.
Lastly:
The United
States' steadfast support for Israel has drawn criticism for exacerbating the
violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Despite Biden's
commitment to human rights, the US administration remains hesitant to challenge
Israel's actions, resulting in a strained relationship with its human
rights-centered foreign policy.
As calls for
urgent action intensify, the Biden administration faces mounting pressure to
address the escalating violence and hold Israel accountable.
