Muttaqi, who is Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister arrived in Pakistan on
Friday along high level Afghani delegate.
According to
Afghanistan’s Foreign Office statement, he will lead a “comprehensive political
and trade delegation, because Afghan government has to discuss the multiple bilateral
issues including transit, political and economics and regional security.”
Similar statement
was issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office that both the ministers will discuss
wide-ranging bilateral relations between the two countries in the political,
economic, security, regional connectivity and educational domains.
The Pakistan-Afghanistan-China
Trilateral Dialogue:
Chinese
Foreign Minister Qin Gang has also arrived in Islamabad the same day for days
official visit to conduct Fourth China-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue. Apart from
this, the Ministers will also participate in the Fifth Trilateral Dialogue
among Pakistan-Afghanistan-China at the level of Foreign Ministers on 6th
of May, 2023.
The trilateral
dialogue started in 2017 among the three countries to improvise mutual trust
and cooperation. This will be fruitful at this time when there are certain
issues at the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Prior
remarks of Pakistani FM:
According to
Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto, who also has recently attended
SCO Foreign Minister’s Conference in India said that we want meaningful engagement
with Afghanistan.
He also urged
the international community to interact with interim Afghanistan’s government
in order to understand the situation and desired outcomes. He further said that
Afghan government must also be urged by the international community to abide by
international principles like political inclusion and respect of fundamental
rights, especially women’s right to education.
According to
him, international community should extend its favour to develop and enhance
counter-terrorism capacity regional security, particularly in Afghanistan,
where terrorist groups are making their contacts to disrupt peace in the
region.
Lastly,
Bilawal has asked the Government in Afghanistan to uphold their commitments to let
not their soil be used by non-state elements.
