Climate Change have become a frequent nightmare. The governor of Guam has issued warning to its people to stay at their homes as the mighty “Typhoon Mawar” may hit the region directly on Wednesday. The typhoon is strengthening its head towards the pacific region.

Guam is an organized but unincorporated territory of United States in Micronesia, the sub-region of Western Pacific Ocean. Its capital is Hagatna.

People of Guam are considered American citizen but are politically disenfranchised. They have not been given right to vote in American Presidential elections. It is inhabited with around 171,000 people.

Lou Leon Guerrero, the Governor of Guam urged his people on Tuesday to remain calm and ensure preparedness for the cyclone.

He was quoted by Al-Jazeera saying that “Mawar is the real threat and a possible direct hit to our island”.

The weather service reported that the storm may hit the region midday around local time (02:00 GMT) Wednesday.

Patrick Doll, a lead meteorologist working for the National Weather Service in Guam was quoted by Associated Press saying that “If it don’t take a direct hit but its going to be very close.”

The expected speed of the storm was noted about 225 km per hour (140 miles per hour).

This may be the category-4 cyclone, possibly delivering a biggest hit to the region after 20 years.

The Doll also added warning that typhoon could cause “Extensive Damage”.

Lockdown:

The governor of Guam said she will place a complete lockdown from 01:00 pm to 03:00 pm. She also warned the people to take the matter seriously and get ready for this. She also informed that emergency shelters will be managed.

People Getting Themselves Ready:

The Pacific Daily News reported that the people in the islands were leaving grocery and hardware stores with bulk of shopping.

Their carts were overflowed with canned food, cases of water and generators.

Rota Island, with some others also at Possible Hit:

Rota is an Island in the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. It was alarmed and considered to be hit by the typhoon.

Warnings for tropical storms have also been issued for Tinian and Saipan islands.

It was noted that people have fully rehabilitated after category-5 storm hit the region in 2018. They are living in temporary shelters.

Lastly, Doll was quoted as saying that “in almost every seven to eight years, the island is hit by cat 4 or 5 typhoon. Mother Nature has spared us as of late, as last storm hit us in 2002. So, we are way overdue”.
