What can the government do?

The government can take a number of steps to address the problem of waterlogging in Chennai, including:

  • Investing in improving the city's drainage system
  • Clearing encroachments from canals and waterways
  • Desilting lakes and reservoirs
  • Raising the level of roads in low-lying areas
