SYDNEY: Australian
mayor ready to file a suit against ChatGPT if it did not correct false claims that
the mayor had served time in imprisonment due to bribery. Brain Hood, an elected
Mayor of Hepburn Shire, located at the northwest of Melbourne, said in a statement.
This could be the first defamation lawsuit against the AI application.
Brian
Hood told by the public about that ChatGPT has listed his name in the foreign
bribery scandal that involved subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of Australia in the
early 2000s. He did work for the subsidiary, Note Printing Australia at that time.
He notified authorities about payment of bribes to foreign officials to win
printing contracts but never charged with a crime. Lawyers remarked.
The lawyers sent a letter of concern to
ChatGPT owner OpenAI on March 21. They had given twenty-eight days to fix the
errors about their client or face a possible defamation lawsuit.
The letter has not been responded yet by OpenAI,
that is based in San Francisco, nor it did respond to an email by Reuters.
"He's an elected official, his reputation is central to his role,"
Naughton expressed in a statement. As Hood relied on a public record of shining
a light on corporate misconduct, "so it makes a difference to him if
people in his community are accessing this material". He also added.
