GENEVA: Climate Change is impacting the world badly. Its major impacts are rising sea levels, rise in global temperature, extreme weathers, loss of biodiversity, ocean acidifications, as well as greater health, and agricultural issues.

In the recent report about climate change, published by United Nations’ agency World Meteorological Organization, it has warned that global sea level has doubled, even it is rising more than double the pace that was witnessed in the first decade of measurement accounting from 1993-2002. Now, it has hit the new record and will continue to rise.

Behind this exponential rise in sea level, there is Extreme Glacier Melt and record Ocean Heat that causes water to expand. According to the UN’s agency, this has contributed to an average rise in sea levels of 4.62mm a year between 2013-2022.

"We have already lost this melting of glaciers game and sea level rise game so that's bad news," WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas said in a press brief.

Coastal cities are greatly vulnerable due to rising sea levels and the low-lying states, such as the island of Tuvalu, are also threatened by this.

Another annual report published by WMO that was published a day ahead of Earth Day also recorded exceptional reduction of ice in Antarctica. released a day ahead of Earth Day, also showed that sea ice in Antarctica. On the other hand, oceans were recorded 58% of their surfaces experiencing a marine heatwave. (Courtesy: Reuters)
