The United
State has denied taking side of any political party in the ongoing political turmoil
in Pakistan, that erupted especially in the wake of arrest of Imran Khan, an
ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, and a former cricket hero, by Paramilitary
Force, known as Pakistan Rangers on the order of National Accountability Bureau
(NAB). NAB is an autonomous watchdog that is responsible to investigate corruption
in the country.
Vedant Patel, a
spokesperson for the US State Department, announced in a press brief that United
States it wants a partnership with prosperous and strong Government of Pakistan
and does not want to take a side of any political party or an individual.

Vedant Patel
replied to the question that he can’t guess on the matter about the impacts on
Pakistan’s nuclear program in the wake of ongoing crisis regarding safety
concerns. He termed the matter as something internal to Pakistan.
When Patel was
asked about the violent attacks by the party workers on military entrances and houses
inside the city. He replied that we continue to monitor the situation in
Pakistan closely, but we don’t have a position on one candidate or party
against the other.
The Spokesperson
responded to another question regarding suspension of internet services to the public
during the time of chaos and violent attack by the angered workers. He said, internet was also needed for the communication,
informed decisions, accountability, and exercise of freedom of expression.
The official
also disagreed with the remark that US government is reluctant to take a stand
for one among the government of Pakistan and Imran Khan. He commented that we
already have clarified that the US government has not any favoured candidate or
political party, not only in Pakistan but across the other countries.
He further commented
that the safe, strong and prosperous Pakistan is favourable to the interests of
United States. This principle remains unchanged.
However, he continued
that, we have communicated several times to Pakistan and other countries to adhere
to the principles of human right and press freedom.
According to
Vedant Patel, the US government is looking forward to boost economic ties with
Pakistan particularly in the field of investment and trade.
He also added that
there other fields of cooperation like security, renewable energy, addressing
the issues of climate change, and increasing agricultural trade etc.
In another
questions about Islamabad’s role in Afghanistan, he said, Pakistan is United
States’ trade and security partner and continues to be partner in the region.
