The US
ambassador in South Africa has recently accused Pretoria of transportation of
weapons and ammunition to Russia through a Russian ship, The Lady R that docked
at a port in city of Cape Town back on December 6th to 8th.
South African
officials rejected the accusations levelled against their country. The Presidential
office issued a statement claiming that the inquiry under the retired judge
will be conducted. South African minister who controls arms transport said in a
statement that no such shipment was carried out.
The spokesperson
of Foreign Ministry also added that the government did not approve any such transportation
of weapons to Russia.
South African
Government summoned US Ambassador:
Reuban Brigety,
The US Ambassador, was summoned by Foreign Ministry of South Africa. The ministry
conveyed it displeasure over the allegations he levelled against country.
The ministry also
said in statement that Brigety, unreservedly apologised to the government and
people of South Africa by accepting that he crossed the line.
US Threatens to
deny access to its markets:
The White House
National Security Council’s Spokesperson without putting specific accusation to
South Africa, reiterated its stance about the country who help Russia in the
wake of Ukrainian war.
Al-Jazeera
quoted Washington that any country providing material support to Russia aiding
in Ukrainian conflict will be denied accessing US markets.
